About me, my son, my wife and her walk.

I'm entirely unremarkable.

I'm a desk jockey who grew up during the cold war in the San Francisco bay area. While horrendously expensive, I still believe it to be the best place on the planet to live.

I went to college in rural California, studied computer science and women, met my lovely wife and moved back to the bay area in the mid 1980's. I have worked for a variety of computer manufacturers over the years in engineering; writing software to test new computer hardware in engineering, manufacturing and the field or getting in the way of (managing) people who do.

We have a son who is 16 years old and we haven't killed him yet, which says something. Actually, he's a great kid; a scholar, water polo player and Boy Scout who's close to achieving Eagle. He's also very active at our churchand does a ton of service work on behalf of church, Scouts and his school.

I flew hang gliders for 15 years - it's the most fun you can have with your pants on. I'm a retired pilot now, but think about going back every once in a while.

Our family loves to travel; we've been to Japan, New Zealand, Australia, England, Scotland, France, Kenya, Tanzania, quite few places around the US and abunch of places I'm sure I've forgotten to list.

Our family also loves the outdoors, camping, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and of course backpacking.

Which brings us to the gist of this blog. I tried backpacking and have enjoyed it, but an injury and letting myself get out of shape has pretty much ruled out continuing in a serious way.

My wife, however has gone completely nuts for it, and when a friend suggested a PCT through hike, she gave it a lot of thought and then dove in.

So my son and I are going be left at home, scratching and burping and making dents in the couch; eating out too much, rarely doing dishes and occasionally feeding the dog.

This blog will track all of this fascinating activity in excruciating detail.
